How are creative, compelling logos created? We know they are NOT designed by committee. And we know that they do consider the business type, its name and personality, and basic design principles. But how does the creative mind work?
Michael Ernst, creator of the Yelp logo, provides this fascinating inside look at the chaotic and creative process of logo design on Quora.com.
It’s interesting that the logo designer developed at least a 100 concepts and isn’t afraid to show the “clunkers.” A fundamental aspect of effective brainstorming is quantity without early stage critiquing. What do you think of the final Yelp logo? Did they select the best one, or do you prefer a different logo?
As a Plano screen printing practitioner, I think the Yelp logo is conducive to quality screen printing because it features flat color without overly intricate detail. Since it can be produced with just 2 or 3 colors, it’s also very economical for custom t-shirts Dallas. For Plano embroidery, the logo works well as it features an irregular shape. The Yelp font outline looks better on an embroidered company shirt or an embroidered cap because it’s interesting, and avoids the boring look you see with boxy, mass manufactured name patches on embroidered uniforms.
